My photographs explore the unique and longstanding relationship between photography and music. To make these portraits, I photograph at music festivals and outdoor concerts throughout the state of Pennsylvania each summer. Most attendees are there to watch the performances, but I am much more interested in the enthralled fans. The festivals attract large crowds of music fans from all over, so at first glance it would appear that attending a music festival is a shared activity. However, my portraits reveal that listening to live music can also be a deeply personal solo experience.
